Mumbai: TUV Rheinland India, a subsidiary of TUV Rheinland Group (Germany), has partnered with Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) to boost the quality of Indian handicrafts. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director of EPCH and Charan Singh, Regional Director of TUV Rheinland India recently signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru.

Under the agreement signed, TUV Rheinland and EPCH will spread awareness on supply chain standardisation, processing, product certification and testing amongst the Indian handicraft exporters.

Both the organisations will also conduct regular workshops and seminars to meet the goal set.

Additionally, testing laboratories will also be opened in the country as part of the agreement. These labs will provide testing services to the handicrafts exporters at nominal rates.

Skilled manpower and modern machinery are still a major concern for the Indian handicrafts exporters. On the other hand, compliance-related issues from the buyer’s side have always affected the margins.

The initiative taken by EPCH and TUV Rheinland India is expected to help the handicraft industry in combatting the compliance issues and secure growth.
