Mumbai: The workers leader, Ma Zargyi Win said that despite promises by the management, there has been no solution to the dispute. The protests started in June last year with workers staging a sit-in at the entrance of the factory, accusing the management of cutting their pay and forcing them to work weekends in breach of their employment contracts.
There are 4 gates at the factory. The main gates used by the people for going in and out are Gate No 1 and Gate No 2. The sit-in strike was started at Gate No 1. Now they will step up and another protest will be held at Gate No 2.
The main reason is that the protests have been going on for eight months and the workers have suffered losses. Although the president said it would be settled for us to be reconciled, the respective ministries haven’t come to the factory and settled it. After meeting with the president, they continued trying to meet with the regional cabinet but they weren’t successful. They will wait one more week. If nothing happens, they have a plan to expand their protests.
