Telangana: The leaders and members of Telangana Handlooms Workers Joint Action Committee (THWJAC) have appealed Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leadership to establish a Handloom Cell in the party.
A large number of handloom workers led by the JAC leader Chippa Venkateshwarlu and city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari met the TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and submitted a memorandum in Hanamkonda on Tuesday.
Explaining the need of establishing the cell, Venkateshwarlu stated that after farming, handlooms accounts for highest number of workers and they were not yet an organised workforce. By setting up the cell, the party could highlight their issues and would serve to address them.
Lack of proper budgetary allocation for the welfare of handloom workers was throwing the lives of thousands of workers engaged in handloom industry into doldrums. A Handloom Welfare Board should be set with a dedicated Handloom Policy for the implementation of welfare measures, he said.
