Honduras: Honduras is aiming to become one of the top textile and apparel exporters to the USA by 2020. Total export value of Honduras’ textile products is expected to grow by 10 per cent in 2017.

Honduras’ textile and apparel industry has been transformed in recent years with significant investment in new mills and equipment both from overseas and domestic sources. The majority of the country’s textile and apparel production is destined for export with markets such as the USA as a key destination as well as Europe and Canada. By 2020, Honduras has a target to double its apparel exports and become the fifth largest clothing supplier to the US, up from its current position at seventh. Also, the plan is set to generate over 2,00,000 new jobs in the sector. Additionally, investment would be made to conduct training programmes for skilled workers, establishment of renewable energy facilities along with development of logistics infrastructure.

Sustainability, innovation as well as technology will be the key focus areas for Honduras to ensure ethical manufacturing processes in the textile industry – from saving water in the fabric dyeing process to using recycled fibres in production.
