Myanmar: SMART Myanmar, a European-funded project that promotes the sustainable production of textile and garment made in Myanmar, has initiated a programme to train all the factories in ‘Chemical Management’. The first three training sessions held recently were attended by managers from the various garment and textile facilities in the country.

SMART Myanmar has previously trained and developed numerous managers/workers from the garment and textile industry on several issues pertaining to society and environment.

The newly launched Chemical Management and Detox Programme will further train the factory managers on personal protective equipment usage, chemical inventory management, achieving international best practices and staying compliant with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals standards.

The six-month long training programme is in line with the curriculum made Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the Industry (PSES) Project jointly initiated by the German and Bangladesh Governments.

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is providing the support needed to implement the project in Myanmar. The association functions on behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
