USA: US-based retail giant Walmart is planning to give pink slips to hundreds of its employees before the end of this month. Employees posted at Walmart headquarters and regional personnel that support stores are likely to face job cuts, claims media reports. The massive job cut is likely to affect Walmart’s human resource department majorly along with other departments.

The retailer’s plan is to save money and become more efficient by filling vacancies with consultants as needed. Walmart’s corporate staff in the Bentonville, Arkansas headquarters numbers over 18,000.

Walmart, the largest private employer in the US, had cut around 7,000 back office jobs related to accounting and invoicing positions within its US stores in September last year.

Currently, Walmart has about 4,600 stores in the US and over 6,000 worldwide. Also, it has increased its investment in the e-commerce segment in the past three years.
