Tamil Nadu: The Government of South Indian state of Telangana is planning to frame a policy for the betterment of powerloom and handloom weavers. This was disclosed by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He also promised to take all initiatives to provide them a better life and a sufficient fund allocation in the upcoming budget.
“They are entitled for a happy life. Handloom workers in Siricilla and Pochampally should come out of stigma that they commit suicides and instead the handloom workers in Telangana should be known for leading a life with confidence,” the CM was quoted as saying after a review meeting on handloom workers welfare and Handloom development. The meeting was attended by ministers, officials and representatives from powerloom industry from Siricilla, home to majority of powerloom in the state.
